Note on Husband: Giles EYRE of Eyrecourt

Col. Giles Eyre succeeded his uncle Lord Eyre, at Eyrecourt.

Giles was the Colonel of the Galway Militia and Master of the

Galway Hounds, better known as "The Blazers".

He along with two other members of this branch have been listed as notable british eccentrics.

Similar to his cousin Ned he managed to fritter away a large inheritance through excessive spending on such things as keeping forty horses and seventy dogs, a whim of keeping a plate of money outside his door from which beggars could help themselves.

One large expense being his standing for election in 1811. Despite his priviledged background he couldn't read or write and his opponent in the election, a Mr Martin, a astute politician and renowned dualist offered to stand down from the election if Giles signed a document. Giles's inability to read or write meant he had to decline Martins offer and Giles ended up losing the election despite his spending £80,0003
