Recorder of Salisbury 1696: M.P. for Salisbury 1698 and five succeeding Parliaments; Solicitor-General1708;Judge of the Court of King's Bench; Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer 1723; Chancellor to the Prince of Wales (afterwards George II); and Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. Sir Robert's whole career on the three Benches lasted over twenty-one years.1
