Text From Source: Henry Eyre, who years ago was one of the most prominent men in commercial circles of this city, died at 2 o'clock yesterday morning at his residence, Fort Hill, Staten Island. Mr Eyre was about 70 years old, and he came from England, his native country, to the United States when a mere lad. For some years he was associated with the South Street shipping house of Aymar & Co. Later he was in Business in Baltimore, and subsequently he established himself in this city and took front rank in the cofee importing trade. But in 1872, through the failure of other firms his house became financially embarrassed and was obliged to suspend. Later he was connected with the Cotton Exchange and was a well known figure on the floors of that Exchange until within a short time of his death. Among the old merchants of the city he was universally known and respected. He leaves five sons and one daughter. maynard C. Eyre, of the stock brokerage house of Prince & Whitely is his son.
